In reply to Steve QUAIFE.

The Cricut Maker can cut up to 6-7 oz tooling leather with the Knife Blade. I've cut that thickness before and it usually takes a few extra passes but it does a good job.

I actually just bought a replacement blade for my Maker, the one I had before that is around 9 months old and it still has some life left in it. One handy trick is you can stab the blade (carefully) into a ball of aluminum foil and it sharpens it back up a bit. That helps get a little more longevity out of the blade. If you cut a lot of leather you may end up having to replace it sooner.

As for designs, you can upload SVG files and PNG files to Design Space. I design SVG files in Inkscape (a free program similar to Adobe Illustrator), but you can also purchase ones from sites like designbundles.net.

I have used the engraving blade on tooling leather and you can see how I did that in this tutorial. I have the debossing tip and have tried it with leather, but it doesn't work very well. As for metal, I haven't tried it yet but I have some cake servers I'm planning to engrave on and I'll post a tutorial for that as well.

Let me know if you have anymore questions!

Hi Crystal
That was interesting. I do leather work what I was wondering is what is the thickest leather you have cut with the machine and how long to the bleads last.
Do you have to purchase all the designs from Circut o can you use your own?
Have you used the machine for Embossing and how did you like it?
Have you used the machine for Engraving on Metal an did you like it?
Thank you
