Supplies You’ll Need

Notes

  • Difficulty Level: Easy
  • Pattern is written in US terms

Finished Size

  • Bandana is approx. 14” across and 9” tall
  • Side triangles are approx. 2.5” long
  • Straps are approx. 9” long

Abbreviations

  • Ch – chain stitch
  • St – stitch
  • Sp – space
  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • Dc – double crochet
  • FO Finish off: cut the yarn, leaving a tail of 5 or 6 inches. Pull the loop your hook is on until the yarn end comes through and pull gently to tighten.
  • Rep – repeat
  • Dec – decrease: insert hook into st, yo and pull up a loop, insert hook into next st, yo and pull up a loop, yo, pull through both loops on hook.

Notes

Ch 3 counts as a stitch at beginning of each row.

Pattern as written fits an average sized adult woman’s head.

Instructions

Bandana

Row 1

Attach yarn to hook with a slip knot, ch 4 (counts as starting ring + first st), (2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in first ch.  Turn.

Row 2

Ch 3, dc into same st ch-3 is coming out of, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner sp, 2 dc in top of ch-3, turn.

Row 3

Ch 3, dc into same st, 3 dc in next sp, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner sp, 3 dc in next sp, 2 dc in top of ch-3, turn.

Row 4 – 11

Ch 3, dc into same st, 3 dc in each sp along first side, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in corner sp, 3 dc in each sp along second side, 2 dc in top of ch-3, turn.

After you finish row 11, don’t turn.

Headband Section

Row 1

Ch 1, sc 46 times across front edge of bandana (long edge), turn.

Row 2

Ch 3, dc in first st, *sk 2 sts, 3 dc in next st, rep from * across to last 3 sts, sk 2 sts, 2 dc in last st, turn.

Row 3

Ch 3, *3 dc in next sp, rep from * across to last st, 1 dc in last st (top of turning chain), turn.

Row 4

Ch 3, dc in first st, *3 dc in next sp, rep from * across to last st, 2 dc in last st (top of turning chain), turn.

Row 5

Repeat Row 3.

Row 6

Ch 1, sc in first 3 sts, make next sc in sp, (sc in 2 sts, sc in sp) repeat that across to the last sp, then sc in last 3 sts.

Leave yarn attached for next part.

Side Triangles & Straps

(Side 1)

Row 1

Turn bandana clockwise a quarter turn.

Ch 1, sc 10 times along side of headband section, ch 1, turn.

Row 2

Sc in first 8 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 3

Sc in first 7 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 4

Sc in first 6 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 5

Sc in first 5 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 6

Sc in first 4 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 7

Sc in first 3 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 8

Sc in first 2 sts, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 9

Sc in first st, dec in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn.

Row 10 & First Strap

Dec in 2 sts, ch 40, FO.

(Side 2)

Flip bandana over and turn it so you can work on other side of headband section.  The front edge will be facing right and the point of the triangle will be facing left.

Attach yarn to hook with a slip knot and attach with a sl st to right corner of bandana.

Ch 1, sc 10 times along the side of headband section, ch 1, turn.

Repeat Rows 2-10 of first Triangle and Strap section.

FO and weave in yarn tails.
