STEP 1: Attaching the cords to the ring

Attach each of the 6 long pieces of cord to the ring by folding them in half and using a lark’s head knot to secure them

    STEP 2: First Diamond

Cross the two center cords with the left one over the right.

    cross the cords

Tie a row of 6 double half hitch knots going down and to the right.

    first row of dhhk's tied

Grab the cord you used to tie the first double half hitch knot of that row, and use it as the filler cord to tie 5 double half hitch knots going down and to the left.

Use the cord from the first double half hitch knot of that row as the filler cord to tie 4 double half hitch knots going down and to the right.

Make sure it’s right next to the previous row with no space in between.

Weave the pairs of center cords in an over/under basket-weave pattern so that they match the picture below.

weaving the center cords of the diamond together

Keep the cords in that order when you tie the double half hitch knots to finish the bottom of the diamond.

Use the filler cord from on the left side of the previous row you tied and bend it down and to the right.

Then tie 4 double half hitch knots going down and to the right, keeping the cords in the correct order for the woven design.

Do the same thing on the right side of the diamond, using the right filler cord from the previous row.

Join the diamond at the bottom with one last double half hitch knot going down and to the left.

Now grab the right most cord, which was the filler cord from the first row of double half hitch knots and use it to tie a second row of double half hitch knots going down and to the left right next to the row you just tied.

Do the same thing on the left side, and connect the diamond in the middle with one last knot in the center.

Now you’re going to repeat the process from the first diamond to make a second diamond.

    STEP 4: Plant Basket

Measure down 7 inches from where the cord comes out of the left side of the second diamond.

measure down 7 inches to start plant basket part

Using the left 4 cords, tie a stack of 2 square knots at that mark.

Repeat that with the other 2 pairs of 4 cords.

tie 3 stacks of 2 square knots

Measure down 5 inches, and grab the two left cords and the two right cords.

take the two outer cords on both sides

Flip them in toward the center, and tie a stack of 2 square knots at the 5 inch mark.

Now’s a good time to do a test fit and make sure everything works for your plant pot.

(Note: My plant pot is about 5 inches across.)

Now we’re going to tie a wrapping knot to finish the plant hanger off at the bottom.

Grab the 24″ long piece of cord. Measure down about 3 inches from the last square knot and tie your wrapping knot there using the short cord.

making a wrapping knot for the bottom

Cut the fringe at the bottom, leaving a tassel about 5 inches long, and your plant hanger is done!
